It seems like to me, depression is becoming an epidemic in the U.S. I don’t know if it’s stress because our lives are so busy, the bad economy, or maybe the pressure to posses the latest and greatest gadget, car, house, clothes, whatever. I think some people would be helped if they got back to the basics of good mental and physical health. Like regular exercise, eating healthy, having close and meaningful relationships, doing work that fulfills us, staying out of debt, spending time in nature.

For me, I find that spending time with people I care about and connect with is really important to my mental health. Exercising is a close second. And spending time in nature with my dogs, getting some sun on my skin without the ever-popular sunscreen (I just don’t let myself get sunburned).

Maybe people should stand back, take a good look at their life and figure out what’s missing or not making them happy. And then take some action to fix it. And I know some people will always need medication, but there’s nothing wrong with doing what you CAN do to make your life better.
