Reality Check About Starting a Business

I recently read an article on the Jonathan Fields blog which REALLY stood out to me. I read so many great pieces of content online but this one practically jumped off the screen at me.

It was a guest post by a guy name Scott Gerber called The Cold, Hard Truth About Starting a Business. Here is a link to the article:

I recorded a video summary below with some of my own thoughts and opinions. For anyone even remotely interested in business, please have a look at the article and let me know what you thought:

I read the article the day it came out and made sure to spread it around. It really exposes a lot of the cold hard facts about starting up that most people don’t tell you about.

As for the job vs. entrepreneur argument. I was in the corporate world working for the government and lost my job. I was forced to reinvent myself and get right back into the corporate world for security. There I was 13 years later facing the same fate. I had spent 13 years honing a skill in a trade that will soon be extinct. I am now in the reinvention cycle again, this time it’s all for me though. I will only go back to working for someone else if it’s absolutely necessary.

I hope that day never comes.

Good for you man. I know you are working hard on your business and the reinvention process can be both fun and scary at the same time. Hats off to you for going for it!

    Hey Justin,

Very true, having the experience you had in the corporate world helped you to get to that whole new level where you are now and your also right about people who start an online business for example they expect a quick fix that is why 99% fail because their expectations are too high!

    Have a great day!

      Hey Dan

Thanks for the great comment. You are right. Most people want the quick fix but VERY few have what it takes to create long lasting entrepreneurial success.

I think it has to do a lot with expectations as well. That’s a break point to me.
That’s why I totally agree on the fact which Entrepreneurs should never stop. No matter what.
Hope to see you around Justin 🙂

Good point Fernando. It is easy to except giant success too soon which makes people become impatient. You have to be in it for the long haul. Like you said, never stop no matter what.
      thanks for the comment

“feel like crawling into a corner and giving up” – boy that sounds familiar. I think that’s nailed most of my work days, actually…

Thanks so very much for sharing this post Popovic.
I am so grateful because it was just so brutally true. Entrepreneurs must face the bitter truth that entrepreneurship is a tough choice not for the lazy bones.
