My 30 Day Challenge

One of the biggest things I see people struggling with, whether I’m coaching or even just people I meet in general, is that they know what they *should* be doing to improve certain things in their life… but they don’t actually *do* it!

In some cases, these people have read and studied a wide variety of self improvement topics. So lack of knowledge is not the issue. The issue is lack of follow through. And in my opinion, the reason there is a lack of follow through is because there is no real forcing function.

I am just as guilty as anyone else when it comes to not always following through on the things I know I should be doing to reach my goals.

I also learned something important a few years ago….

When achieving a result is important enough, there are things you can do that ENSURE you will take action. One of those things is declaring your intention publicly. That is exactly what I’m doing today and I hope it inspires you to do something similar:

    Hey Justin

I will be following along too! You have inspired me to set my own goals for my business and my personal life. I am one of those that has been trying to shed some pounds for a while. I am committed to walking 5km a day to achieve this. For my business I need to actively create my own content on a more regular basis.

    Thanks for the inspiration!

    • Hey Sue

That’s awesome. 5km a day is phenomenal. My neighbour started doing something similar and he has lost what I am guessing is 40+ pounds.

Great challenge and best of luck

    Justin:

Great video and point. Goals and achievement are insanely easy to do. We just need to commit ourselves to a plan, stick to it, and keep ourselves accountable. There are externalities that actually keep most of us committed to a goal or objective — mortgage, food, security, a paycheque – key drivers to commit us to do a job/career each and every day.

But in some magical and bizarre way, we don’t keep ourselves accountable to our own dreams and goals — we defer, we make excuses, we negotiate with our subconscious mind, we let external factors like close “friends” or family tell us we can’t do this. In fact, “NO” is the first thing we probably hear growing up. And it becomes more and more of a problem through subtle and indirect methods which may be deliberate or unintentional thanks to the powerful of the insecure, subconscious mind.

Taking action and setting a goal – doesn’t have to be excessive feels good. Small steps help but eventually, the deprogramming gives way to a degree of liberty and relief that so many regret did not happen sooner.

Everyone should keep their goals and dreams intact but must follow-through with them in career, life and entrepreneurism.

    Great content Justin!

  4. Justin,

I like this idea and I will be dropping in to check on you from time to time. I have set a challenge myself. I told everyone that would listen that I would complete an Ultra run in 2012. The reason behind it is purely selfish. I am diabetic and need to control the weight. I didn’t want to see any of the complications that can develop with the disease.
So when I’m jogging along the mountain tracks here in the Pyrenees and feeling tired. Well I just think about all the family and friends who now expect me to be running a 50 mile event next year. I hate letting people down so that is real motivation.
Never thought of bringing this kind of motivation into my business. Might try something similar.
Good luck with this challenge Justin. I’m pretty certain your hair will remain on your head.

I would just like to point out that my lack of hair has nothing to do with any failed challenges.

    Justin,

I just want to say that I am thankful and impressed with the advice you have to give. I also love that you document your goals and the steps you take to achieve them. Definitely makes you human and makes me feel like I am not alone. I just want to say that I noticed when you mentioned the name of your web site that you winced a little. You also said the name kind of fast. Maybe your approach is that you don’t want this particular audience to feel like they are being sold something on http://www.igniteyouressence.com If this is so I beg to differ. What I want to see is the fun and excitement that you have about your business. The way you would talk with your friends about it. Not potential clients/members. Reason being is that you seem like a really cool guy and clearly very generous. I think people would be delighted to see that hopeful and excited side of you.

    • Hey Marisel

Sorry I didn’t notice your comment sooner! Somehow slipped through :)

Thanks for your feedback. I think the wince I made in the video was just because I was thinking about what I wanted to say lol. I never script any videos so sometimes I have to really think on the fly.

At any rate, I’m glad you enjoyed the post and that you got value. It gives me motivation to update this blog more often. Just a matter of finding time while juggling tons of projects at the same time.

Look forward to more exchanges with you!

Hello justin, I have been trying for years to determine my DMP. I just wrote down the instructions for the exercise to help find it. I am going to do it and keep trying. For all the things i have ever read and seen on the internet and in books, i have never sought help or communicated with anyone except my wife about it. It would sure be nice to have more purpose and direction in my life. It seems you may have found yours:) Thats GREAT! I will be reading more of your material. Thanks and good luck

It’a all about taking action, cause without any action, no results will show up.

    My 30 day challenge is:
do social media activities to encrase my social influence, cause I am about to launch my membershipsite about Training and Personal Development.

Have an awesome day and have fun!
