“Only Thing We Have to Fear Is Fear Itself”: FDR 1933.
Your psychological approach is a good example of how you can turn the tables
to your advantage.
In some ways your thoughts rank alongside my old dad’s saying “The man who never made a mistake
never made anything”.
Hey Bill,
Great comment and thanks for sharing your dad’s saying. Love it 😀
Justin,
That’s some of the best advice I’ve ever heard. Even more so because I can tell you’ve lived it. Even for corageous people who like to create and try new things, it’s hard to face the people you’re working for when something goes wrong. I love the advice you give…look at it as an opportunity and follow through with something better. I love it. I’m not sure that everyone can do that, but you’ve given them the best blueprint possible to try.
This was a wonderful post. This time the word “awesome” is the truth.
Diane
Hey Diane,
Thanks so much for the comment and I’m glad you liked the advice. I personally believe anyone can do this. Just some people will be able to do it with more success than others. But sticking to this philosophy and growing/improving over time, I think it literally will work for everyone.
thanks
justin
Great timing, we are approaching the 25th anniversary of Susan Jeffers “feel the fear and do it anyway” and 25 years on, we’re still feeling it. I love your thoughts and will reflect on them.

Thanks Sarah. I’m glad you reminded me of that book. Believe it or not I have not read it yet. I think it is time to finally order my copy… and then share it with my wife/friends when I’m done 😀
Hi Justin,
Time topic!
I used to be a worry wart (my friend called me that) but then I stopped being so and just learned how to just bite the bullet, and jump into the river, so to speak.
I think mistakes (screw ups) are what makes us stronger and wiser.
Gerry
Hey Gerry
Right on dude. I have been following your progress and you are definitely a great example of this topic. Looks like the “worrying” isn’t stopping you anymore 😀
I personally believe anyone can do this. Look at it as an opportunity and follow through with something better…Thanks…

Hello Justin, I am going through a mentorship course at the moment and learning a lot, the process is making me think of what to do after the current course is finished.
I believe that your strategies and products are more aligned to the direction I want to go… So I will be following this blog closely.
Regards,
Sean.

Hey Sean,
Cool. I’d be interested to know what kind of mentoring course you are working on. There are so many options to choose from and they all target certain areas.
Definitely keep an eye on this blog and http://JustinPopovic.com for more information on these kind of strategies and ideas.
thanks
Justin
Great video Justin, and we can all reflect back on stuff that we have cocked up. It would be easy to turn your back and say I can’t do that, but face up to those fears and you become a stronger more reliable person every time.
I have to say your videos often relate to what I have done or am doing and this one is no different.
Peace

Hey Andy
Glad you liked the vid. And I agree… facing the fears and going through them is key. You come out on the other end a changed person… for the better
justin
Great advice. It can be a hard lesson, but mistakes often teach us better than our best work could ever do.
I agree with you Justin, we shouldn’t let our fear of mistakes stop us, whether at work or with life in general. We learn from our mistakes and should damned well never make the same mistakes over and over again.

We should not take mistakes as a big negative in our life. Let’s just set it as a teacher to become a better and strong person in the future.

Hi Justin,
I couldn’t agree more and it’s what I’ve always tried to do. It’s also a great way to take the wind out of people’s sails who are all geared up to rant and rave at you for a problem, they are all set for you trying to justify the problem whilst you agree that there’s a problem and look to work with them to solve it. What happens is what happens, you might not be able to change the past but you can certainly influence the future.
Have fun,
Mike

Sometimes the only thing that screws you up is your fear of screwing up. Can this fear be removed instantly? I guess it requires a long term process. Your video is so uplifting.

Wow. You hit it right on the head. That is me. I am so afraid of failing that I only dream. I so want to stop dreaming and start living. And……. I am stuck. I need a good whack on the head. How can you help me?

In life, there are always one more chance to correct our mistakes and you call that chance ‘tomorrow’. It is true what they say about ‘try and try again’. It’s better than never to try at all. Rather than fear because you failed, fear because you failed without fighting. Life isn’t fair but you wouldn’t know it unless you lived it.
Great advice, Justin! I’m new here but I can feel you. Thanks!

There is just but a lot of stuff that I have learned the hard way, and trust me I have screwed I lot of times than I can remember. I am one person who is never afraid of making mistakes, because that is just one step in getting to learn new stuff. If you sit back and wait for everything to be perfect trust me you will not go anywhere. You will be stuck where you are forever.

Great advice. I learned a lot. Changing your perspective and be able to accept and to make it as an opportunity. Your mantra will be also be my mantra.

Everybody should hate the fear. Because fear is totally fake. And the mistake, its a normal matter. Without mistake people can not learn anything. So, i think mistake is good for everybody.

I did a parachute jump some years back loved it, great fun. However a young woman who was also jumping was scared out of her wits, shaking pale, the works. She jumped despite so scared. That was courage, I really admired that.

I totally agree with the comments made from this video. You can not learn things in life without making mistakes, so people should not beat themselves up about mistakes they have made. Mistakes are vital for success and they should not stop people from doing what they aspire.
