The Turnaround Day

Today I’d like to introduce you to a little strategy that you can apply any time you have caught yourself slipping off track in terms of focus and commitment to your major goals and aspirations.

Its called a “turnaround day“.

The idea is quite simple and best explained with an example.

Just over a year ago, I made a strong commitment to myself (and on video) to permanently change my health and fitness habits and forge a physique and level of health that I had always wanted… but could never seem to obtain.

After 100s of failed attempts, this time something changed and I’ve been able to stick to my plan and gain amazing results along the way.

Over the past few weeks, I felt myself slipping just a little. I was still working out 3 or 4 times a week but not always at the level of intensity that I demand of myself. I was eating healthy for the most part… but also being a little too lenient with my calorie consumption.

The good news is that we all have a very powerful force that guides and dictates the majority of our actions. It is called our self image. And after a year of forging a new identity for myself as a healthy, disciplined and fit person… I immediately started feel anxious and alarmed at the fact that my health routine was “off course”.

I knew if I didn’t do something about it, it could have negative implications on many other areas of my life.

So last night as I was about to go to sleep I decided that today would be a “turnaround day”. A day where I would strongly recommit to who I truly want to be in my health and fitness life.

Here’s what my turnaround day looked like:

  • I started my day early as usual and wrote a note to myself in a personal journal declaring the day as a turnaround day
  • I prescribed the exact food I know I should eat for the day if I wanted to live at my highest level in terms of health/fitness
  • I carved out 2 specific times in my schedule to exercise. A 20 minute power cardio session at noon and a weight lifting session at 6pm
  • I scheduled my final meal of the day to be 4pm

This is a simple formula that has worked well for me when I’m “on” and living my highest standards when it comes to health and fitness.

As soon as I documented the plan for my turnaround day, I felt a surge of energy and motivation.

Instead of wondering whether I might let myself slip and have a few too many snacks today, I quite literally cut out all other options and the ONLY option left was my plan. It was like a huge weight had been lifted.

At the time of writing this I’m about to pack it in for the day but as predicted, this turnaround day has felt awesome in terms of making a re-commitment to my fitness goals. But it has also sent a message to myself that I must come from a place of excellence in everything I do. I am more focused. More determined. More passionate than I was yesterday. And I can already tell this momentum is going to carry forward to tomorrow.

Have you let yourself slip in 1 or more areas that you KNOW are important to you?

If so, try your own little turnaround day and see how it pulls you back up to where you want to be.
