How to come up with new ideas to move you towards a major objective in your life…
- Intense focus and thinking time on a major outcome you’d like to create.
- 20-30 minutes high intensity exercise
- 15-20 minute cool down
- Do something “mindless” not related to your main objective
- Relax and allow ideas to flow to you
Here is a more detailed look at a method I like to use with specifics…
Spend 30-60 minutes just thinking and jotting down your ideal outcomes in a particular area of your life. If you want to sell more in your business, think about how much you want, what that would look like, what you would buy with the extra capital. Get as specific and vivid as possible.
Next, do 20-30 minutes of high intensity exercise. In my case, I do a daily stair running set of 101 flights and I time myself trying to beat my previous record. I’m completely exhausted, soaked in sweat by the end.
Cool down for 15-20 minutes. Have a drink or something light to eat.
Do some task not related to your main goal. In my business example, it could be paperwork, filing mail, tidying your desk, installing a software update on your computer, backing up files. Something that is kind of “mindless”. So playing a game or puzzle that requires intense concentration may not be your best choice.
Usually between the beginning of my cool down and the end of my simple task I have some kind of idea brewing that I have to either write down or brainstorm.
Sometimes the idea is directly related to my step 1 idea. Other times, the idea is unrelated to the topic I started on but it is equally important and exciting.
ACTION… if something comes to you using this process make sure you record the idea somewhere. Either on paper, record your voice, make a quick video, etc…
BONUS TIP – You may feel a tendency to force this process to work. Try as best as you can to “let” it happen. Go in with the mindset that “if I get a new idea, GREAT! And if not, that’s cool too because this is a fun process either way”
Try this out and see how it works for you 🙂
