Why You Don’t Want Things To Come Easy

Back in my corporate days, I was often miserable and frustrated. I day dreamed about the day I would no longer have to report to work. To no longer answer to a boss or manager and to have 100% control over my time.

There were a lot of great benefits in that job. To name a few:
– high salary with yearly raises
– huge skill development opportunities
– flexibility to work from home 1-2 days a week

Yet when I was there, I completely took all of these things for granted. Especially the salary part.

I actually “lucked out” and got a fairly high paying internship right out of university. My salary raised quickly to well above average while in my mid twenties.

I never had to struggle to make money. Never had to worry about paying bills. And I assumed this is how it was once you had an established career.

But like I said, I became more and more miserable in that job.

Eventually I quit and went out on my own. At the time, I didn’t actually realize how huge of an impact this would have on me for the rest of my life.

Earning money quickly became a huge struggle. All of my securities and safety nets were gone.

5 years later I have now figured out how to become completely self reliant and generate all the income I need through my own efforts. But this experience taught me a valuable lesson… when things come too easily, it hurts us in the long run.

Check out this 6 (or so) minute audio recording I made about this idea:

    Hey Justin:

I love the message – it is so true that we need to be challenged in our lives in order to make things worthwhile. If everything we went after was too easy then what challenges would we have to help us to grow as a society.

Awesome message Justin – I am following your 100 day challenge. 🙂
